Research Associate I

NMR is currently seeking candidates for a Research Associate I position. We are a small but expanding consulting firm specializing in evaluation of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. The position is located in NMR’s office in Davis Square in Somerville, Massachusetts. Efficiency and renewables are burgeoning fields providing excellent career opportunities for social scientists. NMR currently seeks to hire individuals possessing knowledge, skills, and abilities typically gained through bachelor’s level education or prior work in engineering, environmental science, policy, economics, sociology, or other social science programs. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Designing, implementing, and analyzing survey data
  • Conducting semi-structured interviews
  • Performing descriptive quantitative analyses using SPSS or similar data analysis packages
  • Writing clear and concise research summaries, memoranda, and reports
  • Conducting energy audits
  • Some general administrative/clerical duties

This position will require individuals to occasionally perform inspections of residential and commercial buildings in order to assess the efficiency of various building components. These inspections may require employees to travel up to 50% of the time. Experience and understanding of the principles and practices of program evaluation is a bonus.

The ideal candidate has completed a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, policy, economics, sociology, or another social science field. Successful employees will have opportunities for advancement in this growing company and field.

NMR is currently seeking candidates for a Senior Project Manager position. We are a small but expanding consulting firm specializing in the evaluation of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.

NMR currently seeks to hire an individual possessing a graduate degree with extensive experience in energy efficiency and renewable energy program evaluation. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree or Ph.D. in engineering, policy, economics, sociology, or a related field plus relevant work experience in energy efficiency and renewable energy program evaluation.

Successful candidates will have the following management experience:

  • Supervising employees, including mentoring new staff
  • Managing multiple projects and schedules
  • Developing proposals and collaborating with other organizations
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for client communications

In addition, the following research and analytical experience is also required:

  • Designing, implementing, and analyzing survey data
  • Conducting semi-structured interviews
  • Producing descriptive statistics and performing tests of statistical significance
  • Writing clear and concise research summaries, memoranda, and reports
  • Working independently and meeting tight deadlines

Candidates should also have experience using SPSS, R, or Stata for data analysis as well as using Microsoft Office products for developing reports and maintaining datasets, and training or experience in research design.

NMR is currently seeking candidates for a Statistical Analyst position. We are a small but expanding consulting firm specializing in the evaluation of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.

NMR currently seeks to hire an individual possessing a graduate degree and with applied experience in designing complex samples and performing statistical analyses. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, demography or related fields plus relevant work experience in sample design, power analysis, and multivariate statistical analysis.

Successful candidates will have the following experience:

  • Applying sampling theory to match the characteristics of the population, study needs, and resources available
  • Designing samples for mail, telephone, or on-line surveys as well as field visits and in-person interviews, including stratified random samples and cluster samples
  • Using power analysis, the coefficient of variation, and the finite population correction factor to determine appropriate sample sizes
  • Drawing samples from sample frames supplied by clients or third parties (such as lists of customers, facilities with specific equipment installed, registered voters, or patients)
  • Identifying appropriate statistical weighting and analysis procedures for sample designs
  • Developing quantitative models and performing descriptive analyses using Stata, SPSS, R or similar packages
  • Writing clear and concise descriptions of research results
