Ian Smith

Research Associate II

Ian joined NMR in May 2025. He is passionate about environmental justice and using data analysis and stakeholder engagement to improve clean energy and energy-efficiency programs. Prior to joining NMR, Ian worked on projects exploring renewable energy development in India and distributed geothermal feasibility in New England. He is fluent in multiple programming and analysis tools, including R, STATA, and SQL, with a focus on statistical analysis, visualization, and database design/management.

Ian holds a M.A. in International Economics and Finance and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Brandeis University. In his free time he likes to rock climb, bake, and hang out with friends.
